Flarely for Android.Straight from us.

entry № 02 · the plain reason ACCOUNT TYPE, NOT APP CONTENT

Why it isn't on the Play Store.

Google requires an organization developer account to publish health apps. Flarely is built by one individual developer, and an individual account can't publish in that category no matter what the app does.

So it's an account-type rule, not a review decision, and nothing about Flarely's code, data handling, or safety. The Android build is the same app that passed Apple's review and sits on the App Store today. Until the account side is sorted, this page is how you get it.

entry № 03 · install FIVE STEPS · ABOUT A MINUTE

Installing it, step by step.

Exactly what you'll see, in the order you'll see it. Nothing here is unusual for an app installed outside a store.

01.

Tap Download

Use the button at the top of this page, on the phone you want Flarely on. The file is about 86 MB, so Wi-Fi is kinder to your data plan.

02.

Keep the file

Chrome may ask you to confirm the download because it's an APK. Choose "Download anyway" or "Keep". That prompt is Chrome checking you meant to do this, nothing more.

03.

Allow installs from Chrome

Android may ask you to allow installs from this source. Turn the switch on for your browser, then come back. You can switch it off again afterwards if you prefer.

04.

Get past "Unsafe app blocked"

Play Protect will show a red warning screen. This is the step people quit at, and it is expected. Tap "More details", then "Install anyway". Full explanation in the next section.

05.

Open Flarely

That's it. No account, no email, no sign-up. Onboarding takes about a minute and you can log your first entry right away.

entry № 04 · the scary screen READ THIS BEFORE YOU TAP INSTALL

Android will say
"Unsafe app blocked."

It's the single most alarming moment of the install, and it's completely expected. Here is the exact screen, why it appears, and what to tap.

1 · What you'll see

Unsafe app blocked

Play Protect doesn't recognise this app's developer. Apps from unknown developers can sometimes be unsafe.

More detailsOK
2 · After tapping "More details"

Unsafe app blocked

The same sheet, expanded. The option you need was hidden behind More details. Tap Install anyway and the install finishes normally.

Don't installInstall anyway
Wording varies a little by phone and Android version. Some devices say "This app may be harmful" instead of "Unsafe app blocked", and the button may read "Install without scanning". It's the same prompt either way.

It is about where the file came from

Play Protect flags every app installed from outside a store with install privileges. Same screen for a beta build from a games studio, a work app your employer sideloads, or this one. It is triggered by the install source, not by anything inside the file.

The APK is properly signed

It's signed with Flarely's release key, the same way any Android app is. Android verifies that signature at install time and again on every update, which is what stops a modified copy from replacing it later.

No certificate makes it go away

On Windows you can buy an EV code-signing certificate that clears SmartScreen. Android has no equivalent. There is no purchase, no paperwork, and no reputation threshold that removes this screen for a directly-downloaded APK. Anyone who tells you otherwise is selling something.

We'd rather tell you about this screen up front than have you meet it alone at the worst possible moment. If you'd still rather not tap past a warning you didn't choose, the iOS build has no such step, and that's a completely reasonable call to make.

entry № 05 · your data THE ONE THING YOU MUST NOT SKIP

Uninstalling deletes everything.

Not "archives". Not "syncs to your account". Deletes. Please read this section before you ever remove the app or switch phones.

Export a backup before you uninstall.

Android's own cloud backup is switched off in this build on purpose (allowBackup: false). That's the right call for a health diary: it means months of symptom, food, and cycle data never get copied into Google's cloud backups where we can't see them and neither can you.

The trade-off is real and it's on you to know it: your diary exists in exactly one place, on this phone. Uninstall the app and it is gone permanently. There is no server copy, no account to log back into, and nothing we can restore for you.

Before you uninstall, switch phones, or move to a future Play Store version
  1. Open Flarely → Settings → Export Diary Backup (JSON).
  2. Save the file somewhere that isn't this phone: your own cloud drive, email it to yourself, whatever you trust.
  3. Reinstall Flarely, then Settings → Import and pick that file.

The JSON backup is the complete diary, in a plain readable format you own. It imports into the iOS build too, so it's also how you'd move from Android to an iPhone.

Everything else about privacy works the way it does on iOS: no account, no servers, no cloud sync, no analytics on your health data. See the full privacy story.

entry № 06 · updates MOSTLY AUTOMATIC

Updates arrive on their own.

Not being on the Play Store doesn't mean you're stuck on the build you downloaded. Almost every update reaches you in the background, without you doing anything at all.

Ordinary updates, nothing to do

Fixes and new features download quietly the next time you open the app. Flarely asks once whether you want to restart to apply them. That covers the overwhelming majority of releases.

Occasionally, a new file

Some changes go deeper than the background updater can reach. When that happens the app tells you once, and Settings → Update Flarely walks you through it: back up your diary, then download the new APK from this page.

You'll see the same Play Protect screen as the first time. Same reason, same answer.

Install the new file on top. Never uninstall first.

Opening the downloaded APK while Flarely is still installed updates it in place and keeps every entry you've logged. That is the normal, supported path, and it is what the update screen inside the app tells you to do.

Uninstalling first wipes the diary. See the section above. If an install ever fails and something suggests removing the app to fix it, export a backup before you do. It takes ten seconds and it is the difference between an inconvenience and losing months of data.

entry № 07 · premium UNLOCKED IN THIS BUILD

Every premium feature is already on.

Google Play Billing can't run in an app that wasn't installed by Google Play. Rather than ship purchase screens that couldn't complete a purchase, this build has the paywall removed entirely. Stated as a fact of how the build works, not as a limited-time offer.

What's unlocked

  • Unlimited conditions
  • All pattern insights, no 5-insight cap
  • Trigger combo detection
  • Full flare warning details
  • Complete Flarely Guide (mid-flare cards)
  • Complete Wellness Guide (safe / caution / recovery)
  • Detailed Doctor Report PDFs
  • CSV export

What that means in practice

There are no purchase screens, no subscription to manage, and nothing to cancel. Nothing in the app will ask you to upgrade.

If Flarely ever does reach the Play Store, that would be a separate paid app with its own billing. Your JSON backup is what carries your diary across, which is one more reason to keep an export handy.

entry № 08 · questions ANDROID-SPECIFIC

The questions we actually get.

Is downloading an APK from a website safe?
It's as safe as the site you get it from, which is the honest answer for any download. This one comes over HTTPS from flarely.me, is signed with Flarely's release key, and its SHA-256 checksum is published on this page so you can confirm the file you received is byte-for-byte the file we published. Android verifies the signature at install and on every update after that.
